The new firmware did get installed without my permission

Post by Sopor » 31 Dec 2020, 03:25

I received a message about a new version and suddenly it started to update without me doing anything.

I have "Install background updates" set to Off.

So if I'm not in front of my TV when this question show up about installing a new firmware it will update the TVIP box.

This is wrong. It should NOT force an update if i don't choice what i want to do.

TVIP 610 firmware 5.0.16. I have now updated to 5.0.20.

5.0.20 is Beta so just change "Update type" to "Default" and you will revert back to 5.0.16 again.

Just tested this and I got two prompts/choices to update or opt out before the actual update happens so my guess is that you actually have activated it.

I know how to revert back, but that isn't the issue here. The issue is that it will update without my permission.

Which does not happen when I try it on my box, neither going from 5.0.16 to 5.0.20 nor going from 5.0.20 to 5.0.16 if "Install background updates" is set to "Off".
After how long time did the update start? 10s, 1m or 1h?

Around a minute!

It seems that if you move the cursor from "Update now" to "Ask later" and then you wait, it will take about 60 seconds for the cursor to move back to "Update now". I think it has something to do with this. I have tried to reproduce it, but i can't and I'm 100 percent sure that "Install background updates" was set to Off. I haven't changed it and it is still in off position. Maybe they did some changes in the 5.0.20 to fix this?

If you have some time over you could run 5.0.16 and when you see "Update now" and "Ask later" you move the cursor from "Update now" to "Ask later" and then back again to "Update now". Now you wait 1 minute. If it doesn't happens now it really must have been a temporary glitch that isn't reproducible.

Running 5.0.20 and the update prompted to 5.0.16 is not performing the update automatic regardless how long I wait.
Exactly the same going from 5.0.16 to 5.0.20 and waiting with cursor on "Ask later" or move it back to "Update now". The only way for me to activate the update is to actually click on the "Update now" so I suspect that you have a problem with your remote control.

Sorry, but could you elaborate on this statement? I'm also unfamiliar with "bcs".
I'm running 5.0.16 which is the latest official release since the 5.0.18 was withdrawn or 5.0.20 which is the current beta version
